Sox Win- Now Tied for First!

04/16/08

By Mike Stone

Red Sox 12, Dodgers 2

The Red Sox made another deep impression on Mustang Field on Wednesday evening.  The team came ready to play and showed it on offense and defense.  The 1-2-3 batters, Corey Stone, Steven Oberly and Deuce McAllister, each hit to-the-fence triples and combined for a total of 8 runs. But the offense was well-rounded and many players contributed at the plate and on the bases.

On the mound, Deuce McAllister had another impressive start and displayed a fine balance of power and finesse pitching.  Deron Barner came in for the save in the fourth inning and did not allow a run which forced the mercy rule and sealed the victory for the Sox.  Eddie Arellano, Corey Stone and Steven Oberly all made stellar plays in the field.

Eddie Arellano was awarded the game ball for his multiple hits and his solid defensive play.  The coaches emphasized that the team needs to continue to improve and develop some of the "small ball" that will be increasingly important as we enter Round 2 and are introduced to more baseball rules and strategy. The Sox will play the Cubs on Saturday, without McAllister, and the outcome will determine first place. Regardless of this outcome, insiders feel that this team has what it takes to be on the top of the division at the end of the season.
