Sox Fold to Cubs!

04/19/08

By Mike Stone

Cubs 7, Red Sox 5

In the highly anticipated game of the week, the Sox lost joint possession of first place to the Cubs.  The Sox were without their ace, "Deuce" McAllister, but Deron Barner started and pitched 3 strong innings.  Steven Oberly also came in and pitched effectively.

The team seemed poised and commanded the lead until the fourth inning.  However, they seemed to take themselves out of the game once they lost the lead and were shut down by the powerful pitching of Cubs closer Aaron Day.

Jesus Inocencio earned the game ball by his hustle and gritty play behind the plate.  The coaches will be working on further developing team play to suceed in the new Round 2 environment.  There will also be zero tolerance for negativity and/or destructive criticism among team members.  The Sox will bounce back Tuesday against the Yankees.
